Homeland Security Chairman predicts terrorist attack at Olympics

HOUSTON, TX – It’s been a rough start to the Olympics. Dilapidated hotels. Terror threats. And now this: a disturbing prediction from the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee warning something bad is going to happen.

“The eyes of the world are upon these Olympics and the Chechen extremists know this and they want to make a global statement — they want to make a Jihad statement — and what better time to do it than right now?”

Congressman Mike McCaul, who represents Texas’ 10th Congressional District, told Fox News that there is a “high probability that something will detonate” before the Olympics are over. But despite his position on the Homeland Security Committee, it’s a prediction many folks in his own district don’t agree with.

“I really think that Russian security is excellent and I don’t think there’s going to be any problems at all,” Houstonian Marcus Holloway told us when we showed him McCaul’s statement. “I think it’s very unlikely there’ll be any kind of terrorist threat at all.”

“I think they’re probably watching things pretty tightly,” Michael Bassett agreed. “I mean, you hope so. But I have faith that they are.”

Susan Johnson said it’s most likely a matter of perception. “I think what’s troubling for a lot of Americans is the soviets aren’t sharing with the United States about security issues, so I think that if they would open up and tell a little more about security, we’d feel a little more reassured here.”

McCaul says he hopes nothing happens and that he’s proven wrong. And so do the rest of us.
