LOS ANGELES, CA – Back in the day confrontations were face-to-face. Now-a-days you can sit behind a computer and tell people how you really feel. Celebrities even do it. You know, Twitter feuds!
You hear about it all the time, like Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville and her ex-husbands new wife, Leann Rimes.
For the first time ever, a case of libel on Twitter is going to trial. The woman at the front and center of it, rocker Courtney Love. She’s the widow of the late Kurt Cobain from Nirvana.
The libel case stems back to 2010 when Love tweeted that her lawyer at the time, Rhonda Holmes, had been “bought off” when she wouldn’t help Love in a legal battle with the manager’s of Cobain’s estate. Love says it was merely an opinion, but Holmes’ attorney says that’s not the case.
There’s been a lot of Twitter libel cases, but this is the first one that has actually made it to trial in the U.S.
With all of us “connected,” it could change the way we talk on social media.
Lesson to be learned — be careful when you tweet!
