Chew On This

24k Gold-plated hamburger turning heads at Houston restaurant

HOUSTON, TX – There’s something to be said about a good old-fashioned burger. And no one in houston is saying it louder than Fritz Gitschner.

“We said, ‘when we have the burger, let’s have the best burger there can be.’ And that’s what we’re trying to do here.”

Welcome to 60 Degrees Mastercrafted.

“They are not ground,” Chef Fritz explains while preparing the meat for one of his favorite burgers, “we are actually chopping them like we do it with a steak tartare.”

And while there are plenty of burgers on the menu, one in particular is catching eyes around town. The 60 Degrees Bistro burger is eight ounces of Akaushi beef, seared foie gras and shaved white truffles. And Chew on This: at $200, it doesn’t come cheap. oh, and there’s one more thing: it’s all served on a 24-karat gold-plated bun.

“It’s not just burger we’re featuring,” Chef Fritz poins out, “we’re featuring steak, we’re featuring schnitzel, we’re having lamb, having fish.”

The place on Westheimer is Chef Fritz’s Own. After twenty-years of working in the restaurant business here in Houston, the master chef decided it was time to do things his own way. And so far, the folks are turning out.

And if a $200 burger is not your thing, there’s plenty else to choose from. But seriously, what’s more American than eating a 24-karat gold-plated hamburger? Right?
