HOUSTON – The war in Syria is a long ways from here, but we’re getting a first-hand look at the painful consequences. Children who have been caught in the middle of all the violence, or who simply don’t have access to good medical care, are getting the help they so desperately need.
The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) brought Mohammed Jammous and Fatima Asafar to the Texas Orthopedic Hospital. Mohammad lost his leg after a shell tank explosion. But thanks to the PCRF and doctors with the Fondern Orthopedic Group, he’ll be getting a prosthetic leg.
Asafar will be undergoing hip replacement surgery after living in pain for years.
The children are being cared for by a host of families in the area. So for now they’ll call Houston home as they begin their road to recovery.
