WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goblins and ghouls aren’t the only scary thing about Halloween. Food stamp benefits could be slashed for 47 million Americans this October 31st. That is, unless congress steps in.
A boost from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, was designed to help needy Americans out and boost the economy during the so-called “Great Recession.” The boost brings in an additional $80 per month for a family of four. If Congress doesn’t pass legislation to extend the boost, snap benefits could drop by $25 per month for that same family.
To families in need, October isn’t far off. Looks like Congress better snap to it.
