Malala Yousufzai leaves hospital

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND – It’s a day many around the world could only hope for. Things were looking bleak for 15-year-old Malala Yousufzai after an assassination attempt on her way home from school in Pakistan last October.

And here she is now, against the odds. She’s now discharged from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, where she was flown after the attack to receive life-saving care.

She still has a long way to go. The hospital says she will continue to receive treatment as an outpatient. Malala will likely undergo cranial reconstructive surgery next month, where doctors will replace a shattered portion of her skull with either her own bone or a titanium plate. All the while, the threat of the Taliban finishing what they started (if you know what we mean) looms overhead.

But something tells us this is nothing Malala can’t handle.
