Holiday travel expected to be busiest in 6 years

USA – It’s that time of year again. We’re talking about holiday gas and not the kind that has to do with your diet. It’s almost like Santa is throwing a few extra bucks down your chimney!

Prices at the pump are down about six cents in the area. The local average is just roughly $3, and nationally it’s also down, hovering around $3.25.

Analysts say this is going to be the busiest Christmas driving season in six years. Apparently most people would rather take their cars than sleighs to Grandma’s. Speaking of sky travel, some 42 million passengers are expected to fly during the holidays, about the same as last year.

Anyway, while you’re out and about on the roads over the next few weeks, keep in mind that the average price at the pump in 2012 was $3.63, which is ten cents above the record set last year.

So even though it feels like you’re saving mad dough right now, it still probably comes out in the wash.

Remember that when you’re tempted to throw your savings at extra beaver nuggets and jerky.
